The motto of the Cheval Quancard wine company is “l'émotion des bordeaux nous inspire“. “We are inspired by the emotion of Bordeaux”
Founded in 1844 by Pierre Quancard, the Cheval Quancard company has grown over the years and now owns ten chateaux in various prestigious appellations. As a negociant, the company also has partnerships with additional chateaux as well. Cheval Quancard prides itself on offering a range of Bordeaux wines which surpass expectations in terms of quality, diversity, authenticity and value.
Chateau Bonfort has a very special terroir. When Marcel Quancard bought it from an ageing winegrower in 1978, he painstakingly pieced the vineyard back together, taking care to preserve the true spirit of the land and its wine. 12 km north of Saint-Emilion, Château Bonfort has become a small 4-hectare haven for the appellation’s hallmarks, concentrating the flavours so typical of the Saint-Emilion area.
Winemaking
Traditional Bordeaux vinification in stainless steel with 2 to 3 weeks maceration. Ageing In barrels of French oak with 50% renewed every year to ensure balanced tannins.
Fun Fact
The first Chateau owned by Pierre Quancard was Château de Bordes-Quancard which was originally a stud farm. In 1985 the company name became Cheval Quancard (cheval meaning horse in French) as an homage to horse symbolising loyalty, wisdom and conquest.
Food pairing
