Tasting Note
Intense ruby red in color, it reveals intense aromas of black fruits such as morello cherry and blueberry on the nose. The palate is moderately fleshy. Slightly shy in the middle of the mouth, it reveals its fruit aromas after a few minutes of aeration. Its velvety tannic structure and woody touch perfectly support the juicy red and black plum notes that delicately blossom in the mouth until the finish is discreet and distinguished.

Producer
The estate was purchased by Jean-Philippe Janoueix in 2014, which also marks the debut of their first vintage. While the first vintage produced here by the new owners is relatively recent, the vineyard has one of the longest histories in the region as evidence shows the site was cultivated by the ancient Romans close to 2,000 years ago.

Winemaking
The wine is a blend composed mostly of Merlot grapes with small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. They are vinified at a controlled temperature in steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation takes place for 50% in wooden barrels. The wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 16-18 months, with the first 6 months of aging on its lees before bottling.

Fun Fact
The label celebrates the mythical slaying of the Dragon by Saint George, a radical image far removed from the traditional Bordeaux wine labels featuring grandiose chateaux and expansive vineyards

Awards & Accolades
Vivino            3.9

91 points     James Suckling
Rich, dark berries and plums on the nose, in an attractive, fresh mode. The palate has a very focussed, fresh and linear feel. Good depth.

86 points    Wine Advocate
The 2017 Cap St George is deep garnet-purple colored with an earthy nose of tilled soil, mossy bark and underbrush with a core of red and black plums. The palate is medium-bodied and just a little lean in the middle with a chewy frame and attenuated finish.

15 points    Jancis Robinson
Deepest crimson with plenty of black fruit on the nose and a note of cigar box. Tangy black fruit on the palate, smooth and rounded with moderate length.
