Producer

The motto of the Cheval Quancard wine company is “l'émotion des bordeaux nous inspire“. “We are inspired by the emotion of Bordeaux”

Founded in 1844 by Pierre Quancard, the Cheval Quancard company has grown over the years and now owns ten chateaux in various prestigious appellations. As a negociant, the company also has partnerships with additional chateaux as well. Cheval Quancard prides itself on offering a range of Bordeaux wines which surpass expectations in terms of quality, diversity, authenticity and value.

Dating back to the 16th century, Château de Paillat-Quancard owes its name to the neighbouring village of Paillet. The symbiosis is complete between a vineyard and its birthplace, giving extra feeling to a wine that remains elegant, subtle and refined throughout the years and always lives up to expectations. The chateau was bought by the Quancard family in1968 and the cellars were

entirely modernised in 2011. A conversion to certification for organic agriculture started in 2019. Since 2022, Château de Paillet-Quancard has been entitled to receive AB certification “Certified Organic Product”.

Winemaking

Traditional Bordeaux vinification with cold maceration for about a week is followed by a three week period of fermentation with maceration. Portions of the wine are matured in barrels and vats with Merlot predominantly in vats to ensure smooth tannins.

Fun Fact

The first Chateau owned by Pierre Quancard was Château de Bordes-Quancard which was originally a stud farm. In 1985 the company name became Cheval Quancard (cheval meaning horse in French) as an homage to horse symbolising loyalty, wisdom and conquest.

Food pairing

Enjoy with red and white meat, rich casseroles and soft cheese.
