Tasting Note
This wine has a beautiful purple colour and an open nose with notes of ripe fruit and
cherries. Mellow berry flavours from Merlot are accentuated with appropriate acidity and tempered with smoky notes from Cabernet. Tannins are smooth and supple with an elegant lingering finish.

Founded in 1844 by Pierre Quancard, the Cheval Quancard company has grown over the years and now owns ten chateaux in various prestigious appellations. As a negociant, the company also has partnerships with additional chateaux as well. Cheval Quancard prides itself on offering a range of Bordeaux wines which surpass expectations in terms of quality, diversity, authenticity and value.
The origins of Chateau Vieux Cardinal Lafaurie date back to the 12th century, when the order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem set up a hospital to care for crusaders and pilgrims. Cabernet Franc vines were planted then to produce the wine for mass. The Château Vieux Cardinal Lafaurie was bought by Marcel Quancard in 1978.
Winemaking
Traditional Bordeaux vinification in thermos regulated stainless steel with 2 to 3 weeks maceration. Ageing In barrels of French oak for 12 months with 50% renewed every year to ensure balanced tannins.
Fun Fact
The first Chateau owned by Pierre Quancard was Château de Bordes-Quancard which was originally a stud farm. In 1985 the company name became Cheval Quancard (cheval meaning horse in French) as an homage to horse symbolising loyalty, wisdom and conquest.
