Producer
Surrounding Africa’s legendary Table Mountain is a sanctuary of lush fertility and natural beauty. This is the home of Kumala, where quality wines that are full of character are made. The name "Kumala" comes from a character in Alan Paton's famous South African novel, "Cry, the Beloved Country." Kumala is a young, innocent boy who represents hope for the future, much like the winery's aim to create high-quality, approachable wines.
Winemaking
The Kumala team focus on viticulture to ensure the grapes are at the best possible levels of natural sugar content and ripeness at harvest time. Diligent attention by growers takes place year round with the winemakers joining them in the crucial period just before harvest. Pressing of the black grapes is very gentle to extract just the right about of naturally sweet fruity flavours without the tannic influence from the grape skins. The result is the transformation of perfectly ripened grapes into delicious fruity wines.
Fun Fact
Technically, the Kumala logo depicts a stylized Cape gehyra gecko, a small reptile native to South Africa. Geckos are known for their good luck symbolism in many cultures, making it an auspicious choice for a wine brand.
Food pairing
Perfect with fish dishes and green leafy salads.
