Producer
Cuatro Pasos is the project of Martín Códax (Cambados, D.O. Rías Baixas) in the lands of El Bierzo. After years of effort, considerable investments and challenging decisions, Martín Códax has demonstrated that he not only has a sixth sense when it comes to forecasting new trends in the wine market but also that he knows how to execute them with perfect mastery.
The Bierzo DO lies to the east of Rías Baixas and has a slightly warmer climate.
Winemaking
Mencia grapes come from vineyards with an average age of 80 years from 4 properties located in 4 different towns: Otero, Hornija, Corullón and Valtuillein the high areas of the Bierzo.
Temperature controlled fermentation of the must takes place in stainless steel tanks followed by ageing for 2 months in barrels of French and American oak.
Fun Fact
Cuatro Pasos gets its name from the discovery of four bear footprints in a magnificent vineyard in the highest areas of Bierzo.
Four solid steps are necessary to reach excellence: the selection of the land, the care of the vine, a suitable climate and carefulness in the vinification.
