Tasting Notes
A delicious medium sweet expression of Malbec jamminess backed with oodles of rich berries and sweet fruits. Ripe juicy plums dominate with a sneaky hint of cocoa and vanilla in the finish.
Producer
Jam Shed wines originated in Australia with the ever popular Jam Shed Shiraz, famous for being “seriously jammy”. For Malbec, the winemakers decamped to Mendoza in Argentina, the home of the best Malbec and found the richest sweetest grapes for Jam Shed.
Winemaking
The hills of Mendoza in Argentina are known for the best Malbec vineyards. Jam Shed grapes are sourced from select parcels focusing on fruit with high Brix levels at harvest time (natural sugar content in the grapes). The fruit is carefully handled during crushing and fermentation to limit the tannic effect of skins and stems. There is some gentle oaking during maturation to add some depth and a toasty vanilla finish.
Fun Fact
The Jam Shed name originated the town of Clare in south Australia where the Leasingham winery was established in 1895. Since it had previously been a jam factory, the locals referred to it as the Jam Shed. The winery specialised in a luscious sweet Shiraz, often called jammy. And so the wine and winery came to be known as “Jam Shed”.
Food pairing
A friendly wine for casual dining like pizza as well as spicy dishes. This is an all weather wine. It can be gently heated in winter with cinnamon stocks for a warming mulled wine, or poured over ice in summer with orange slices as a refreshing fruit punch.
