Producer
The history of the Saladini Pilastri dynasty dates back to the beginning of the year 1000 being a noble family from Ascoli. The estate was originally granted by the Pope to the family for their help during the crusades. Wine production began on the estate three hundred years ago and to this day Saladini Pilastri combines historical local tradition with modern technology.
Winemaking
The hillside vineyards are located on 320 hectares of rich limestone soil in Monteprandone and Spinetoli located in the Rosso Piceno and Falerio DOC zones. The sea breezes play a massive part in cooling the vineyards and olive groves, all of which are certified organic. Soft pressing and fermentation of the grapes takes place at cool temperatures. Ageing for five months takes place in concrete vats to preserve the varietals’ signature characteristics.
Fun Fact
Saladini Pilastri was Italy’s first, certified organic winery in 1996.
Food pairing
A classic to enjoy with simple dishes like grilled white fish and poultry as well as being a suitable partner for exotic Oriental dishes.
Awards & Accolades
90 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine comes from a very small appellation in the Marche that covers only 953 acres. This example is a blend of Trebbiano, Passerina, Pecorino and Chardonnay. It opens with aromas of Golden Delicious apples, sweet candied pears and yellow flowers. The palate is fresh with a bit more green apple. An easy and tasty wine.
16+ points Jancis Robinson
Coppery straw yellow. A really attractive citrus and orange nose of real depth. Fresh and viscous on the palate and a little mouth-watering. Good length too and great value. Very good value.
