Tasting Notes:

Deep red colour with violet highlights. An intense nose of blackberry has a subtle hint of dried herbs. On the palate the wine is smooth, a typical “Mellow Merlot”. The fruit flavours linger on, enhanced by 14% ABV. This is a medium bodied, well balanced wine.

Winemaking:

The Chocalan vineyards from where the grapes for Inspira wines are sourced have a temperate Mediterranean type of climate . However, there is a large variance between the high daytime temperatures in summer and chilly nights. Being close to the Pacific Ocean the inland winds provide extra humidity and have a cooling effect on hot days.

The result is an added intensity of fruit flavours in the grapes.

The grapes are picked by hand to avoid bruising and the addition of unwanted tannins. A short trip to the winery ensures optimum fresh grapes.

A short maceration on skins is followed by a warm fermentation. The wine is aged on its lees in stainless steel for at least 3 months.
