Intriguing aromas of flowers (roses) and citrus fruits lead on to a light bodied palate with pink grapefruit, green apple, honeydew melon and almond notes in the finish.
Producer
Cavino was founded in 1958 in Aigio by Konstantinos Anastasiou and Ioannis Douskas.
Aigio, is located in a unique landscape of vineyards. The slopes of Aigialia combine with the mountains and the sea in a unique way to form a special microclimate.
Cavino primarily uses indigenous grape varieties such as Agiorgitiko and Moschfilero as well as dabbling in international varieties.
Today, the company exports over 70% of its production and prides itself on being one of Greece’s leading exports of wines and spirits.
Winemaking
Parcels of pink skinned Moschofilero are harvested, and handled gently to avoid bruising the fruit and reducing any skin colour transfer to the juice. Vinification takes place in chilled tanks with no oak influence to ensure the varietal signature aromas of fresh flowers and flavours of pink grapefruit are evident.
Fun Fact
In 2009 Cavino was recognised as the best Greek winery by the reputable International Wine & Spirits Competition UK.
Food pairing
Try this with Greek dishes like a typical Greek salad of leaves, cherry tomatoes and crumbly feta cheese. Spanakopita (spinach and cheese pie) is a popular light dish and it can also go well with white fish dishes. Being aromatic, Moschofilero is also suitable as an early evening aperitif. Due to its “rose garden bouquet, it can also go well with creamy desserts.
