Tasting Note

Medium bodied, this is a typical example of a smooth mellow Merlot. Perfumed plums and cherries are tempered with dried herbs leading on to a generous palate of ripe plums, clove and nutmeg spices enhanced in the lingering finish.

Producer

Hardys is one of Australia’s oldest wineries, founded over 165 years ago. Thomas  Hardy helped forge the Australian wine industry and was a true pioneer, entrepreneur and visionary. Today the winemakers continue to uphold the Hardys passion for viticulture and winemaking, crafting quality wines for consumers to enjoy across the globe.

Winemaking

Merlot grapes are grown in the Riverland region which has a climate well suited for growing vines. Warm summer days and plenty of sunshine allow ripe fruit flavours and sugars to develop. Hardly any intervention takes place in the winery so the typical varietal characteristics of Merlot are amplified under the watchful eye of winemaker Paul Burnett.

Fun Fact

VR stands for “Varietal Range”; easy drinking wines full of varietal flavour.

Hardys is one of the most awarded wineries in Australia with over 9000 medals awarded during the winery’s long successful history

Food pairing

Excellent with slow cooked meats like over roasted lamb shanks, ribs and slow cooked beef cheeks. Also suitable for charcuterie and pasta dishes with red meat and/or tomato sauces
