Tasting Note

A very delicate wine made from the Godello grape with beautiful notes of flowers, acacia, hint of anise and many exotic fruits such as mango, banana and white nectarine. The potent ripe fruits linger in the aftertaste with slightly pungent tannins.

Producer

Martin Codax is the winemaker and has earned his fame with the Albariño grape. But the house wants to show more of Spain, thus a white wine from the Godello grape from Monterrei. The Monterrei (meaning king’s mountain) is further inland in comparison to DO Rías Baixas. 

Winemaking

The Monterrei mountains protect the grapes from heavy rainfall and the Godello grapes can enjoy more dry periods. This is also necessary because this grape does not like wet feet. The old vineyard stands at an altitude of 300 meters and the soil contains a lot of granite contributing to the steely mineral notes in the wine. The grapes are hand harvested at the ideal ripeness in the old vineyard. Vinification is in stainless steel to preserve the pure fruit elements of Godello.

Fun Fact

The vineyards are located near the Wall of Medeiros, a unique Iron Age fortification surrounded by ancient cave presses. The wine is inspired by Mara, a deity thought to still haunt this historical site today.

Food pairing

A delicious wine with dishes such as chicken salad, light fish dishes like tacos with lemon, but can also be enjoyed on the terrace or as an aperitif.
